I've been working and studying cinematic lighting and portraiture for a while now. I've watch hundreds of youtube videos because I learn by osmosis. We built a jungle set in our home studio and lit it with two flashes. The art direction and creative was to showcase a story of a jungle explorer. I'm looking to step into more portraiture and advertising work in this style, so I'll keep building and developing an eye for it.
What I learned:
I've been asking this question in my work, is the subject part of the environment? Do they tell the story as part of their surrounding or are they just a subject with an environment. With that In mind I've been taking a heavy approach with styling and art direction. I wanted our model to be part of the story of the woman explorer not just a subject.
I feel that it would have been more powerful if she had a staff.
